ROAR Expectations

ROAR members are certainly not too polite to opposing teams, but within our own ranks ROAR members should try and abide by these few expectations during games:

1) Stay standing! – The games are only about two hours on average. It’s not asking too much to ask  to stand for the majority of it. It doesn’t matter if we’re beating San Diego by 40 with two minutes to go, or losing — God forbid — to some horrible Pepperdine team as the clock winds down. The energy of ROAR drops drastically when half the student section is sitting, and we don’t need that! The higher the energy within ROAR, the higher the energy on the court!

2) Wear ROAR shirts, LMU stuff, or at the very least something crimson, red or navy! It's unrealistic to expect every student to remember to wear the ROAR T-shirt, but every student owns at least one LMU shirt. Even if it’s not an LMU shirt at all, something crimson or navy is better than being that one kid sticking out of the student section with a random green or pink shirt..

4) Perhaps most importantly, nobody is too cool to participate! Seriously, it doesn’t matter if you’re in the first row, the last row, or one of those students who sits off to the side avoiding the crazies down in front, everyone should be participating in the game! The cheers are very simple. Jump up and down and yell “Ooooo” on defense. Chant "L-M-U-U-U-U-U" on offense. If all else fails, just follow along with the crowd or some of the craziest ROAR fanatics! There really are no excuses to not participate. After all, you only have four years or so to be in a rowdy college basketball student section, so why not make the most of it? If you're worried about making a fool of yourself, just look around at everyone else, especially at those crazies down in front! Don't be shy, just let loose, be wild, have fun, and enjoy it!
(And if you see someone sitting down during the game looking glum, be a hero and get them to stand up!)

5) Don't ever throw anything onto the court! Sounds easy enough to abide by, but it's happened before. While ROAR supports outrageousness, cheeky antics, and having fun, throwing anything onto the court will get you thrown out of the game as it disrupts play, is very unclassy even for rambunctious students, and can result in a technical foul and free throws for the visiting team if it's done twice! So moral of the story, be wild, be insane, and yell at the opposing point guard by name to psych him out, but just don't throw anything onto the court!
